March 18, A look at Ben Franklin standing in front of the Old Post Office in Washington DC. Built in 1899 it was the first government building to have (fittingly) its own power plant. The tower stands 315 feet tall and also proudly houses the official United States Bells of Congress, a bicentennial gift from England celebrating the end of the Revolutionary War. The Washington Ringing Society sounds the Bells of Congress every Thursday evening and on special occasions.
