March 5, Got home from Washington DC late last night. First 2 days were overcast and raining but since I was in meetings all day it was not a problem. It also made for some decent night shooting. Then yesterday, it was beautiful. My problem was only having a few hours to shoot before my flight left. Washington is such a beautiful city and there is soooo much to shoot that I barely scratched the surface. I will definitely have to make a return trip.This is a quick turn around with one of the shots of Capitol Hill. Spent the Days on the hill meeting with several members of Congress on various Broadcasting issues. This was my first trip and a wonderful glimpse into the workings of government. I was so impressed with the number of bright, energetic and passionate young people who are involved in the process.

  • March 28, This is "Cloud Gate"; a chrome, "bean like" sculpture in Millennium Park, Chicago...<br /> <br /> Anish Kapoor, The Artist who created it had this to say..."What I wanted to do in Millennium Park is make something that would engage the Chicago skyline so that one will see the clouds kind of floating in, with those very tall buildings reflected in the work. And then, since it is in the form of a gate, the participant, the viewer, will be able to enter into this very deep chamber that does, in a way, the same thing to one's reflection as the exterior of the piece is doing to the reflection of the city around." -<br /> <br /> This is also a bit of a self portrait as my image is lower right

  • March 18, A look at Ben Franklin standing in front of the Old Post Office in Washington DC. Built in 1899 it was the first government building to have (fittingly) its own power plant.The tower stands 315 feet tall and also proudly houses the official United States Bells of Congress, a bicentennial gift from England celebrating the end of the Revolutionary War. The Washington Ringing Society sounds the Bells of Congress every Thursday evening and on special occasions.
  • March 13, Still working on the hundreds of shots of Washington from last week. The distance from the Washington Monument in the foreground to the Capitol in the background is over 1 1/2 miles so I was pleased with the way this shot came together. It is HDR but the relationship between the subjects was not enhanced in PP. Have a great Saturday.

  • March 10, Another post from DC. This is the World War Memorial. Located near the Lincoln Memorial it honors those who served in WW I and was donated by the citizens of the District of Columbia
  • March 25, Chicago has so many spectacular buildings. Much of the architecture is made of materials and positioned to reflect the beautiful sky and colors from the lake. I tried to capture a little piece of that with this example. I have recently realized how almost all of my shots are devoid of people. I tend to look at the beauty of my non-human subjects and try to capture form, color and texture. I think it is a result of my design background.
  • February 25, I shot this a few weeks ago while shooting eagles on the river. I did not use it because it had such a dark mood but the more I worked with it the more I began to like it. I have been trying to catch the beauty and starkness of the ice on the river but bad lighting has made it difficult to get anything to work with. This is an HDR of 5 images
  • February 23, It was a very gray weekend...again. Not many people out either. This window jumped out at me primarily because of the vine and the way it embraced the wall and window.
  • January 28, Shot tonight after work...not my favorite image but it was 11 degrees
  • January 30, Finally had a beautiful clear day. It was also a little warmer than it has been. This is one of my favorite buildings in Peoria. It reflects the sky from almost every angle
