ccpix > March 7, Another post from the Washington trip. This statue is located in front of the Smithsonian Castle. It is Joseph Henry (17 December 1797 – 13 May 1878). He was an American scientist who served as the first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, as well as a founding member of the National Institute for the Promotion of Science, a precursor of the Smithsonian Institution. The SI unit of inductance, the henry, is named in his honor, as are derivative units such as the millihenry and microhenry. Henry's work on the electromagnetic relay was the basis of the electrical telegraph, invented by Samuel Morse and Charles Wheatstone separately.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to fly in a variety of aircraft including hot air balloons, gliders, open air cockpit vintage bi-planes but this was my first jet fighter. It was incredible.

ccpix > January 29, Another shot from my shoot last evening. The temperature was 11 Degrees and I quickly learned that 11 degrees at night is colder than 11 degrees during the day...for some reason. This image is from a waterfront park along the Illinois River. I have been waiting for the river to freeze over for some shots of river ice but up to this point it has been too warm to freeze solid. That may change over the last few days. The camera performed well in the cold...can't say the same for the photographer.
ccpix > January 9, It was -11 degrees Saturday morning so I was not going to venture too far from the warmth of the fireplace. I did want to try to capture the stillness and depth of the extreme cold. This is the view out of the window in front of my computer. This is an HDR to try to bring out starkness of the cold against the warmth of the trees and remaining leaves.
ccpix > February 22, In honor of Washington's Birthday I have made 2 posts. This is Mount Washington. It is the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288 ft. It is famous for its dangerously erratic weather; until 1996, it held the record for the highest wind gust directly measured at the Earth's surface, at 231 mph on the afternoon of April 12, 1934. It was known as Agiocochook, or "Home of the Great Spirit", before European settlers arrived. The mountain is located in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains, in Coos County, New Hampshire. It is the third highest state high point in the eastern U.S. and the most prominent peak in the Eastern United States.
ccpix > January 16, Went hiking today to the Ice Falls in a nearby state park. The lighting was very flat but managed to get a few decent images. The orange coloring is from the high iron content in the water.
