ccpix > February 28, Peoria Holocaust Memorial: A collection of 6 Million buttons, encased in glass columns shaped like the star of David representing those who lost their lives in the Holocaust
ccpix > February 27, Not the greatest composit but I am just learning photoshop. This is the eagle from the shot of down town in last month's daily. I moved him to a more classic river shot but not sure if it works. Input on improvements is more than welcome.
ccpix > February 26, They always ask..."What is in a name?" Not the best of images but I thought the subject was very unique. The shot actually makes the boat look better than it is.

Thank you all for the comments on the factory shot yesterday. I learn everyday looking at the wonderful work posted here. Hope you have a great start to a relaxing weekend!
ccpix > February 25, I shot this a few weeks ago while shooting eagles on the river. I did not use it because it had such a dark mood but the more I worked with it the more I began to like it. I have been trying to catch the beauty and starkness of the ice on the river but bad lighting has made it difficult to get anything to work with. This is an HDR of 5 images
ccpix > February 24, This is the headline from October 7, 1899: "DEDICATES PEORIA MONUMENT.; The President Addresses Thousands at the Unveiling of the Memorial to Civil War Veterans."
(Excerpt) PEORIA, Ill., Oct. 6. -- A good part of the population of Peoria, the second city of Illinois, to-day took part in an elaborate demonstration to welcome to their city the President of the United States. The great event of the day was the unveiling of a monument erected by Peoria's citizens as a memorial to the soldiers of the rebellion, living and dead.

This is a shot of that statue on the courthouse grounds
ccpix > February 23, It was a very gray weekend...again. Not many people out either. This window jumped out at me primarily because of the vine and the way it embraced the wall and window.
ccpix > February 22, In honor of Washington's Birthday I have made 2 posts.
This is Mount Washington. It is the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288 ft. It is famous for its dangerously erratic weather; until 1996, it held the record for the highest wind gust directly measured at the Earth's surface, at 231 mph on the afternoon of April 12, 1934. It was known as Agiocochook, or "Home of the Great Spirit", before European settlers arrived.
The mountain is located in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains, in Coos County, New Hampshire. It is the third highest state high point in the eastern U.S. and the most prominent peak in the Eastern United States.

 George Washington Born 1732
The plaque at the base of this statue in Peoria states that this is a replica of the statue which stands on the campus of The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. It says, "May this likeness inspire all who pass by to honor the contributions and ideals of its subject." In 1792, during the presidency of George Washington, the federal government negotiated the Putnam treaty of peace and friendship with the Native American tribes living in the Illinois and Wabash river valleys. Two representatives from Peoria then traveled east with a delegation to deliver the treaty papers to President Washington. One representative was Gomo, a Potawatomi leader who had been raised in the Old Village of Peoria by a French fur trader and farmer. The other was Jean Baptiste Maillet, a French trader and founder of the New Village of Peoria.

The statue was given by alumni and friends of The George Washington University in April 1998.
ccpix > I mohala no ka lehua i ke ke'ekehi 'ia e ka ua.
Translation: The Lehua blossom unfolds when the rains tread on it. Explanation: People respond better to kind words than to scoldings.

Thank you all for your kind words on my recent posts...it makes this a truly educational and enjoyable experience...
